"Lets think big
and start small!"

Kisumu is the third largest city in Kenya and the principal city of western Kenya. In 2009 the government decided to bring the head-road with all the bus stations outside of the city center. Because of this the demand for cheap short-distance transport has grown. In the Pedi-Power-Project a new and sustainable expansion of public transport in African cities was developed, the Pedicab. The Pedicab is a locally produced modern bicycle rickshaw, made from local materials. This project was conducted as an internship for the NGO CooP-Africa.
Besides the Pedicab design also a new handbicycle was designed. The typical hand tricycles are the only way for disabled people to transport on long distances. However, the old and simple design has many disadvantages. Breakdowns are the last thing that disabled people should have. Together with some mechanics and a few disabled people various new prototypes of hand-tricycles for disabled entrepreneurs in Africa were developed.
